Crafton Borough Trail Study
PUBLIC SURVEY
GAI Consultants have been hired to conduct the Crafton Borough Trail Study. This is a planning project that will focus on design improvements for the Chartiers Creek Trail and the Baker’s Acres property (next to the West Busway between Crafton Blvd and Woodlawn Ave), along with enhancements for improved walkability in the community to better connect residents to their trail systems. This is a community effort and can provide wonderful community benefits. Well connected trails and walkable communities can provide:
• Safe Routes for Travel, Exercise and Leisure
• Community Infrastructure Improvements
• Opportunity for Business Expansion
• Healthier Lifestyles
• Social Bonding between residents and neighbors
As we move into the future, more people will decide they can work almost anywhere and choose places that provide nearby conveniences, services, and mobility options. Communities that create great places to live, shop, work and play will be most attractive to new residents. Trails benefit people in many ways
They provide access to community amenities, businesses & services, recreation sites and to natural environments
Trails provide alternative transportation routes, exercise, education, social and family bonding
Trails strengthen communities by creating linear parks for neighbors to interact and socialize
And well-designed routes add to social equity by “leveling the playing field” and providing safe commuting routes and travel opportunity for all economic and social levels to access work, school and play
A walkable and bikeable community offers multiple transportation choices to all residents regardless of age, ability or socio-economic status, and provides healthier travel choices
The study will include preliminary trail plans for the Chartiers Creek Trail and the Baker’s Acres corridor, recommended enhancements to walking routes, and improvements for trail connectivity, safety and user comfort. The preferred alignments will be vetted with the project committee and the further developed with construction budgets, funding sources, and strategies for development.
Funding for implementation will be pursued via state, federal and local matching programs. This trail study was partially funded with PA DCNR grant funding.
