Capital Improvement Projects:
South Grandview Avenue Separation

In an effort to reduce overflows at the C-23 POC and to work towards the Flow Targets anticipated in the next Consent Decree, Crafton Borough has prepared plans to separate the public storm sewer collection system from the combined sewer collection system, leaving in its place a combined system of only private storm sewer connections. Currently, a combined sewer runs along South Grandview Avenue and Ewing Avenue with storm sewers connecting three catch basins to the combined sewer at the intersection of the two streets. An isolated section of storm sewer is also located on Ewing Road, connecting a catch basin to the existing combined sewer.

Plans for the project center on South Grandview Avenue, Ewing Avenue, and Ewing Road and its adjacent public property. This project completes the separation by disconnecting seven inlets and corresponding pipe and installing approximately 740’ of new storm sewer that ultimately outfalls into an unnamed tributary to Chartiers Creek. Work on South Grandview Avenue starts at the intersection of Ewing Avenue and terminates in front of 35 South Grandview Avenue, translating to roughly 250’ of new storm sewer. 400’ of new storm sewer will be installed on Ewing Avenue and Ewing Road with the remaining 90’ of new storm sewer installed on the public property adjacent to Ewing Road. An endwall and rip-rap rock apron will also be installed at the outfall, acting as an energy dissipater and thus preventing erosion of the unnamed tributary to Chartiers Creek’s streambed. Finally, multiple low and raised areas in the brick road ineffectively direct flow to the existing inlets. This project corrects that issue by proposing to reconstruct the roads within the project limits with bituminous asphalt and consequentially allowing the Borough to regrade the intersection in such a way that efficiently directs all runoff to the inlets.
